and very very sad. This season is full of so many fantastic photo oppurtunities; of family, for sure, but also the first snow (last Thursday!), the cold mountains at dusk, and the delightful culinary treats. Moving to east Tennessee has really developed my love of photography as I feel I am daily surrounded by beauty, history and poignancy. It inspired me to make a photo-a-day promise to myself, one that has been dissapointed by the loss of my camera.
I realize that lacking a camera is certainly not the most desperate situation, but it has put a damper on my enjoyment of the season, so I've been searching for a way of rectifying it.
After talking to some family members and examining are budget, it become clear that no camera will be coming my way anytime soon.
Unless I do something out of the ordinary.
So, I've decided to do something out of the ordinary: put advertisements on my blog. I'm using Google Adsense, which places text links that are (or should be) appropriate to the content. I make money if readers click on the links. I assure you, any money gathered by this little experiment will go directly to a new camera. I have thought long and hard about alternatives, but while working a full time job, running a business in which I take no profit, knitting a huge sweater on comission and designing a friend's website and being paid in trade, my options are limited.
My original plan was to take down the ads after reaching my goal, but I decided, instead, to keep it up one month after reaching my camera goal. All money earned in that month will be donated to the Appalachian Service Project, which builds and repairs homes for the people who live and struggle to survive in this beautiful place.
I'd love to hear what you think of this decision, honestly. Have you/would you ever do something similar? Do you feel it changes the blog-reading experience when blogs have advertising on their sites? Please share.

Go for it! I understand your need for a camera, and appreciate your sensitivity to this issue. Frankly, I usually don't even notice advertisements on blogs, since I see so many of them; but if it's a good blog, I make a point of noticing and clicking on the links as a gesture of support. Sincerely wishing you good luck.
I don't mind that ads. :-)
