Knitting apathy

Well, maybe not apathy, but definately a sense of...ennui. Without the pressure of deadlines or the excitement of planning a gift, my knitting is languishing. I have a gazillion things I'd like to knit, but no direction. I want several things for myself (sweaters, scarf, gloves, hat, slippers!) but I want them all equally, so nothing is pressing to be finished.
Add to the general dissary of my desire the expections of the Holiday Season. Every night (from last night to next Tues) involves some form of 'family time'. While I may enjoy 'family time' in theory, in practice, well, it gets in the way of my knitting. Most 'family time' involves lots of sitting around after a meal and chatting and noone minds me knitting then-as long as I'm not paying more attention to the yarn than I am them (frankly, some of my yarn is so much more fascinating then some of my family). Well, this requirement nixes Backyard Leaves (which I started and looove) because I need to keep checking the pattern. The fact that the sock (the ultimate in take-along knitting) I'm working on is FOR my mom automatically disqualifies it from 'family time'. Hot Lava was too big to carry with me (oh yeah, I finished it last night! It's drying now!) So what to work on?
1. Finishing FIL's scarf (in the car)
2. Backyard Leaves (only at home, when I have attention to spare)
3. swatching for my cardigan (Perfect! It's small and just St st!)
