Lesson learned

Gah! Although I'm proud of my hub for designing fingerless gloves for his dad, I really should have thought it through ahead of time. The gloves have a checkerboard pattern on that back of the hand and solid blue on the palm. For some reason, I thought Fair Isle would be the way to go but I was wrong-WRONG! There were too many floats and the man has to put his hand into the damn thing without catching any strings, no? So I ripped back Sunday night and tried it intarsia...that is, without reading anything about intarsia. I know the gist of it, each section of color has its own little ball (or 'bobbin') of yarn and when you come to it, you pick it up and knit. I didn't consider it might be more tricky if you're doing this in the round-since the color isn't right there waiting for you, you have to pull it over, leaving a small float. Oh and I didn't think to twist the different colors together.
Which, of course, left gaping holes in between sections. Grrrr...
Despite the gaping holes, I finished the first one and will now attempt to sew up those holes and block it into submission.
Finally, I got a clue and googled intarsia and found a handy way of doing it in the round. I could not be more annoyed at myself for not having looked it up sooner.
