I recently learned that two of my dear, sweet friends lost the baby they were eagerly anticipating. I was overwhelmed at hearing of their lost and the ensuing medical procedures she's had to (and continues to) go through.
I feel the desperate urge to reach out in a physical way and don't know where to begin. If they were nearby, I'd hug them, long and hard; I'd hold their hands in waiting rooms; bake cookies; sit in our donut shop quietly.
But they are over 400 miles away and I yearn for a way to connect, more than awkward phone conversations or emails.
So I turn to you, fellow crafters, knitters, women: what can I do? What could possibly convey my sentiments?
Thank you for any ideas, and for keeping them in your thoughts and prayers.

Gosh, I don't know. But you and your friends are in my thoughts.
That is so sad to hear. I feel heart broken for your friends. Why don't you send her a care package with say a warm pair of hand knit socks, pampering products and snacks. Make sure to include a nice hand written note.
