My mom was never into New Year's Resolutions, in fact, I didn't even realize it was something people did until some time in high school, when asked to write about mine. So it suprised me when, at about 11:30pm, December 31rst, she revealed she was resolved to make decisions this year, to clean the clutter and pain out of her emotional life (she's been vacillating about finalizing a necessary divorce since last January). This caused me to reflect on the coming year in a way I normally don't. 2006 was incredibly...overwhelming. Emotionally, maritally, spiritually, financially, phsyically even techinically (both laptop and digital camera forsook me in '06), the year kicked my ass.
I'm feeling better, stronger and, like Mom, more decisive this year. Ready to make my bi-annual list of things I'd like to accomplish or improve before my birthday in June.
- Compile a list of To Read books for the coming year (with NPR's help)
- Crochet a blanket using all of my blue leftover yarns, something like Jane's wavy blanket.
- Find pleasure in cooking and shopping, inspired by the Slow Movement
- Submit a pattern to Knitty (a goal for last year I didn't accomplish)
- Read A Taxonomy of Barnacles and participate in Ship of Fools
- Apply (and do all appropriate paperwork for employee discount) for Summer Session classes in subjects that please me!
- Refrain from yarn purchases until Hub and I are both permanently employeed and after that, limit such purchases to indie businesses (both manufacturers and merchants), souvenirs and yarn for my future designs.
