Contemplatively over

I've been reading a lot of meta-blog posts lately. You know the ones, where the blogger blogs about blogging: why they love it, hate it, how it's affected their lives. While I generally enjoy reading thees posts, I've always avoided writing them. For one, it assumes the blog has a readership, and frankly, I'm not so sure my blog really does, or that I want it to. Second, blogging hasn't changed my life. I've always kept journals, diaries, notebooks of my lists. Back in 2000 I started a Diaryland "diary" and kept it up for all 4 years of college. As far as I know, the only people who read it were other diaryland members in my group of friends (or their group of friends). No one called it "blogging" then and, in fact, I was a lot more me in that diary. I wrote what passed through my mind, free associating, stream-of-conscious, grocery lists even (if you're interested, you can see it here, but go to the archives and read the reeeaal old stuff) and it just felt good to have it saved somewhere...out there, but not really out there because hundreds of people didn't read it.
I had hoped NaBloPoMo would bring out those Karouacesque musings lingering inside of me and I would write something real and me. But, well, that didn't happen. Almost daily I scribbled down a note for myself, a blog post idea or topic, but when I sit down at the screen, all lofty ambitions and writerly ways vanish and I ended up keeping things light. Not intentially, it just, doesn't come out here.
So this blog, it sticks with the knitting, crafting, reading, watching. The tangible what of my life, without touching the how or why. And although sometimes I wonder if I'm missing out on 'the joy of blogging' because I'm not making close new friends or really freeing myself, I'm ok with it. I love having a place where my knitting is orderly, I can track my progress, remind myself of my crafty plans and link to the inspiring things I read on other blogs. The trick to blogging is that it can be so much, so awesome, so personal but it doesn't need to be, to be effective. It just has to be what you want, when you want and that, right now, is what I need.

You're blog DOES have a readership.

I had hoped the same thing for NaBloPoMo but it didn't quite happen for me either. Other things did. And that's fine.

I love your blog, and I've loved the links you've been putting up here. I saved the one about screen printing.

I like when people do the meta posts too.

Last, what you wrote in your last line: "It just has to be what you want, when you want and that, right now, is what I need" is exactly where I am right now too.

Excellent post. I enjoy reading your blog. Frankly, I agree with you completely, and I think your blog is exactly what you need to keep doing.

I read your blog and consider you an important part of my blogging/knitting/crafting circle! One's blog is what is right for them, and as long as your is satisfying your needs, you're good.
