B & N

When you're poor and in search of entertainment, Barnes and Noble is an excellent place to relax. I went there on Thursday, after an interview (I got the job!) and I collected quite a stack to read as I sipped my 1/2 caf 2 pump Pumpkin Spice Latte.
I generally choose 3 types of reading material:

Business mags: the recent issue of Inc says that "going green" is a way to get rich...yeah, that's totally why I started BCB! Forget the environment-I want the money! (this is sarcasm, friends)

Craft magazines: I love Cloth, Paper and Scissors, lots of great multi-media stuff, wishing I had a table for crafting.Knitting books, of course. There were so so many new books, I only had a chance to check it out a few. I've written up some reviews on the above books, I'll be posting them later this week.
Although I realize not everyone unwinds at the bookstore, it's been a long-time habit for me. My first "date" with Hub was at the local bookstore and all through college, it was as "out" as I got most weekends. For me, it's the perfect oasis: all of those books; all that information and pictures and inspiration. There's nothing as satisfying as stumbling upon a perfect book I never knew about it.
This isn't to say I don't buy books (I really do, maybe more than yarn, definately more than clothing or makeup or shoes), but there are so many interesting books I don't actually need to own and no matter how many I do buy, my house will never have that sense of wonder, of not knowing what book might find it's way into my pile...

Ooh, I looove going to the bookstore too. I can't wait until my kids are a wee bit older, so I can safely take them to the bookstore and know that they won't destroy $200 worth of merchandise in a minute and half on me. I think that's the thing I miss most about my pre-kid life - the ability to go, "Screw it, I'm going to the bookstore" any time life got me down, and for less than $5 I'd have a full evening's entertainment.

Bookstores are awesome. Particularly now that they have caffine in them as well.

I could spend hours alone in a bookstore. It's my idea of a great Friday night.

yay! Congrats on getting the job! I could spend a whole day in the bookstore, by myself, looking through all the books. I think my kids are starting to love them as well : )
