The end is nigh

My knits have been trying to push me over the edge lately.
Exhibit A: my Mom's hat (to match the armwarmers)...When I got ready to bind off (in my newly learned I-cord bindoff) I only had this much yarn left...

That was Thursday morning. With much prayer and hoping, I had this by Thursday evening.

Yes, the hat is holding Sara Bear captive (don't laugh, she's really frightened).
Exhibit B: I started a pair of slippers for my little brother Troy on Wed. morning, using the Knit Picks Wool of the Andes that we dyed together. This is what I had Thurs. monring.

They're based on the conept of Fuzzy Feet and in order to get them little boy sized, I knit a basic sock pattern sized to fit me. Keep in mind, I did no test swatch for felting, nor any math AT ALL to make sure these would fit him. I've never even felted WOTA. This is them pre-felting, this morning (isn't that a beautiful color?)

After reading Felted Knits last night, I decided to use the recommened Controled Felting method described therein. It involves checking on the felting process every 5-10 minutes and NOT using the rinse cycle, since this shrinks your piece more.
I put them in the washer this morning with every intention of felting in a controlled manner. However, the phone rang, it was my mom so as we chatted I made some coffee. Then I realised I needed to brush my teeth, and my hair. Oh and now drink the coffee while checking my email.
Oh wait has the washer stopped already? Sh**!

I grabbed them out of the washer and immediately dug around for the foot measurements I took a couple months ago, filed quite orderly in my knitting folder und the title "measurements" (since when am I so organized?)

The T&D refer to my bros ( despite being 18mos apart almost all their measurements are the same)...but really matters is the the foot should be 7"....I rooted around for my tape measure (it was where it should be, in my knitting bag !? WTF?)
How is this all working out? Surely the slipper will be all wrong!

I know it kind of goes out of the picture (the kitten won't stop snuggling the slippers) but yes, they are exactly 7 inches!
Which thrills me beyond belief but also...well, I feel like this is it: the hat had the perfect amount of yarn, the slippers are the perfect size...I'm all out of knitting karma! The few Christmas gifts I have left, well, they'll fail, I'm sure.
The dino hat for my littlest bro? A huge failure.
The garter stitch scarf for the the FIL? I'll trip on the long circular needle and bash my head in.
I'm frozen with fear and have yet to touch any knitting needles today. Expect a grim report tomorrow about how Sara Bear really has been taken hostage.

I would run with that knitting karma and knit as fast as you can! Dont let it die down, you are so close to being done.
