Spending the weekend out of town was the best thing for me. I've been so stressed out about moving and having to find a job and an apartment while living 350 miles away (even if it's not for another 9 months!) I'm not feeling very employable right now (what does a French degree and managing a studio prepare you for?) and so the trip was to check out the prospects and soothe the existential angst.
It worked! We (Jamie and I)left Firday morning and spent the day driving, eating, and giggling. We arrived at Lindsay's for more giggling and hours of Sex & The City. Saturday was Knoxville! The only yarn store we made it to was Knit N Purl, but it sufficed! It had the entire collections of Noro and Debbie Bliss (yarns my LYS doesn't have) and lots of sock yarn and 100% wool. Jamie has clearly never experienced a yarn store as she started gasping and pointing before we even walked in. She immediately decided on garter/drop stitch pattern for a scarf/wrap (good first knitter's project!) and 3 balls of Noro Lotus. I took a little longer, fondling it all. It was colder than I expected so I was in need of...a scarf! I haven't knit a scarf in so long! I found some handpainted Naturwolle and corresponding UT orange Elsbeth Lavold AL . On the way back to Linds, Jamie decided she needed to learn to knit: right then! While I thought it impossible to teach her whilst I drove...she insisted...and I did! I verbally explained each step (slip knot, casting on, knitting) and she picked it up, without any problems! I'm awaiting a picture of her finished scarf, but it shouldn't be long-she's hooked!
Not to be outdone, I cast on for my own scarf and finished it Sunday night, during Gray's Anatomy. Here's the only pic in which it looks like it looks...stupid rainy weather makes for bad photos
Did I mention I got a drastic haircut?
Am home now, feeling less stuffy...I cast on for armwarmers...can't say more because they're a gift for...someone. Am also working on my Hot Lava and Carissa's Josephine.
How do I have so many projects going on at once? I'll expound on my technique tomorrow (Hub's begging to start Psycho)
I just realised this post is laced with exclamation points (!): clearly a sign of my good weekend (!)
